Domaine des Agnelles

Discover our Domaine

The Domaine

The house exudes the old-world charm you’d expect from a Maison de Maître in the South of France. Marble fireplaces in almost every room, intricately designed ceilings, and magnificent old tile floors. An interesting detail is that the marble fireplaces and windowsills in each room are made from the same marble but are uniquely designed for each room. There’s a lot of character in our house. In a distant past, the Domaine was a sheep farm (Agnelles = female lambs). The owner of the farm lived in the Maison de Maître. Later, the entire Domaine, covering about 500 hectares, was divided into smaller plots, and the house and outbuildings were occupied by a wealthy winemaker.

We offer 4 beautiful rooms and 4 delightful apartments, catering to every group’s preferences. We are happy to provide suggestions for your group to create a dream vacation for everyone. The Domaine, with its central courtyard, serves as a gathering place for all our guests. Especially in the high season, it’s the ideal spot for starting the day with breakfast and often where the day concludes with a cozy evening.

Staying on the Domaine is a wonderful experience because so much happens here! Enjoy a swim in the large pool, swing on the swing, play jeux de boules, or table tennis, and there are always friends for the kids to play with.

But heading “outside” is equally fantastic! The beach is very close by, you can jump off the rocks in Ribaute, walk through Carcassonne like a knight, take a boat ride on the Canal du Midi, surf in the sea, kayak in the river, or shop in Narbonne, Béziers, or Montpellier. The many nearby restaurants are well worth a visit to savor the true French atmosphere.

Food

France! The country of croissants, cheese, and baguettes! We also enjoy delicious food at our Domaine.

Breakfast

Every morning, we serve a delicious breakfast between 9:00 and 10:00 (when the rooms are let). In the winter, we sit indoors, and in the summer, we serve it in the outdoor kitchen area. With a view of the pool, there’s almost no better way to start the day.

Our breakfast consists of at least:
– Fresh baguette and brown bread
– French Madeleines
– A croissant and/or pain au chocolat (called Chocolatine in this region)
– Two types of cereals
– Fruit yogurt and plain yogurt
– Coffee, tea, fruit juice and milk
– (of course) Nutella
– Various types of jams
– Charcuterie
– Cheese and ‘la vache qui rit’
– Eggs
– Fresh fruit

Breakfast rate (included in room price):
– €12 per person
– €6 per child (up to 5 years)

Dinner

In highseason with sufficiant participation we provide cozy dinners, called “table d’hote”. The rest of the year the table d’hôtes will be by arrangement.

The three-course menu includes an aperitif and an amuse. We serve authentic French dishes and Mediterranean cuisine, as well as other world dishes on the menu.

Complete your dinners with the best wines, especially from this beautiful region. We are situated in the regions of Le Minervois, La Clape, Les Corbières Maritimes, and Corbières Minervois. We have a delightful wine list to help you select the perfect pairing for each dish. Of course, we can provide recommendations.

In the winter months, we serve the table d’hôtes indoors in the living room. In the outdoor room, with a view of the pool, we sit at the long table in the pre and post-season, heated by heat lamps when it’s a bit cooler. In the height of summer, we dine under the tall plane trees under the starry sky, in the middle of the courtyard.

Children (up to 12 years or by arrangement) get a special children’s menu consisting of a main course with lemonade and a dessert. We serve this children’s menu, with sufficient participation, an hour earlier than the table d’hôte for adults. A successful formula for kids and parents!

Dinner prices:
– €32,50 per person
– €12 per child (up to 12 years or by arrangement)

Decor

When the previous owners, bought the Domaine in 2007, they renovated it room by room into the beautiful and delightful place it is today. In broad strokes, we kept the most of the interior intact. It’s characterized by a contemporary style with a strong nod to the past. They have truly turned it into a work of art! We continue this trend with pleasure. We use a mix of curiosities, antiques, new items, and design. We also don’t shy away from kitsch and humor, which you’ll find in our Domaine.

Of course, we don’t compromise on comfort. We offer old charm along with modern luxuries like a comfortable bed, air conditioning, and a spacious bathroom with a bath and shower!

Be warned: because we enjoy working on the interior so much, you may see a different decor than the year before or in the photos, for example. We like to change our interior from time to time.

As a guest, you can use our common living room with a TV corner and a table for 8 people. In the living room, there’s a large bookcase where you can borrow books, and in the hallway, there’s a second bookcase with Dutch, German, English, and French books. This is a “swap a book” area—leave a book behind and pick a new one. There are also plenty of glossy magazines.

In the hallway, you’ll find tourist information. There are also two refrigerators with cold drinks—the so-called “honesty bar.” If you’ve booked a room, you can also use a special space in the fridge and the plates, cutlery, glasses, and other dishes for a simple lunch or dinner. We’ll take care of the dishes again!

Courtyard

Much has been said about our courtyard yet. One of our guests once wrote, “This must be what the Garden of Eden looked like.” The courtyard is often compared to a real, quaint French village square. Our courtyard deserves a stage.

The courtyard is the heart and central meeting point of our Domaine. 8 great centuries-old plane trees provide filtered sunlight. In addition, we have our own fruit trees scattered throughout, such as fig, plum, apricot, nectarine, peach, cherry, persimmon, and pomegranate trees. These fruits are perfect for making homemade jams, desserts for dinners, and the fruit basket at breakfast. To complete the Mediterranean picture, we also have oleanders and palm trees.

Beneath the plane trees stands our 6-meter-long table with a chandelier hanging from the plane tree. It’s the perfect spot for dinners, but also for reading a good book, engaging in conversation with other guests, or playing games with the children.

Furthermore, the courtyard features various seating areas where everyone can find a private spot when needed. Behind the pool, there’s a terrace with an outdoor kitchen, BBQ, and a ping pong table and football table for hours of fun.

Next to the pool, you’ll find the outdoor room for the guests and an outdoor kitchen for Véronique. Here, there’s a 4-meter-long table and a seating area. This is where the day begins with a hearty breakfast, overlooking the pool. In the early and late seasons, dinners take place in this area, sheltered but still outdoors. If it gets a bit cooler, the heat lamps above the table come on.

Furthermore, there is plenty of entertainment for both young and old! A petanque court, a children’s playground with a seesaw and toys, a large cat basket (swing), two delightful grassy areas for relaxation, and comfortable sun loungers by the pool and under the plane trees for a nap or a good book.

Heated pool

The beautiful 6 x 12-meter pool is located at the end of the courtyard and is securely fenced with a gate, so it’s not freely accessible to our youngest guests. From 10 in the morning the pool is open. The pool is a saltwater pool, so there is no use of chemical chlorine! It’s gentler on the skin and the environment.

The pool is normally heated from the last week of April to the end of October (and when the weather allows). Around the pool and on the rest of the courtyard, you’ll find comfortable sunbeds with sunshade.

In the evening, the pool lights up, and guests can enjoy it until 9:00 PM. For our young guests, we occasionally turn on the disco lights; that’s a real party!

Luxury rooms

We have three luxury double rooms and one family room with an extra bedroom for the children.

The double rooms are very spacious and all decorated differently, each with its own color, atmosphere, look and furnishings. What they have in common is that they all have a good bed, an atmospheric old fireplace, a lovely sitting area or sofa and a huge bathroom with bathtub and large walk-in shower.

The family room is bright and spacious with a second bedroom for the children and an extra table for socializing.

Beautiful Apartments

All our apartments are different: in terms of atmosphere, decor, location and equipment. Are you coming with older children or with a baby? We have a suitable apartment for every family or company. We are happy to think along with you about the possibilities.

The apartments have one or more bedrooms for 2 to 5 people maximum, a bathroom (some with bathtub), a large walk-in shower and toilet, a kitchen with all amenities to make yourself a delicious petit déjeuner or a delicious dinner. Or join the other guests for breakfast or table d’hôte.

Surroundings

Our Domaine is situated between the beach and the city, offering a perfect mix of relaxing on the beach and strolling through beautiful cities, all within a short distance of your holiday accommodation. The Aude region offers a wide variety of activities throughout the seasons of the year. Think of flowers and honey in the spring, or the sea and picnics in the summer. Also, olive picking and the departure of swallows and storks in the autumn, and the search for truffles or a nice hot chocolate after a beach walk in the winter. From cities and villages to the sea and beach, from active to cultural. Of course, we also enjoy wine and culinary excursions. For a sneak peek online, click on ‘surroundings’. On the Domaine, we have an activity guide ready for you to plan your next outing in peace. We can also assist you with tips and tricks.
